Dictate a question
Updated Oct 16, 2026 · Applies to Web, iPhone, and Android · All plans
Select the microphone in the message box and speak your question. ChatPEP turns what you say into text in the message box, where you can check it and edit it before you send. Nothing is sent until you send it.
Dictate on the web
- Make sure the message box is empty. The microphone only shows while it is.
- Select the microphone (Dictate message). The first time, your browser asks to use your microphone. Allow it.
- Speak your question.
- Select the microphone again (Stop recording). What you said appears in the message box.
- Check the text, edit it if needed, then send it.
Dictation on the web listens in your browser's language.
If you do not see the microphone, your browser does not support speech input. You can still use your device's own keyboard dictation in the message box. If the microphone does nothing, allow microphone access for chatpep.com in your browser's site settings.
Dictate on iPhone
- Tap the microphone (Dictate) in the row under the message box.
- The first time, iPhone asks to allow the microphone and speech recognition. Allow both.
- Speak your question. Your words appear as you speak.
- Tap the microphone again (Stop dictation).
- Check the text, edit it if needed, then tap Send.
If you had already typed something, what you say is added after it. Dictation in the app listens in English (US).
If you declined the permissions, open the iPhone Settings app, tap ChatPEP, and turn on Microphone and Speech Recognition.
Dictate on Android
- Tap the microphone (Dictate) in the row under the message box.
- The first time, Android asks to allow ChatPEP to use the microphone. Allow it.
- Speak your question. Your words appear as you speak.
- Tap the microphone again (Stop dictation).
- Check the text, edit it if needed, then tap Send.
If you had already typed something, what you say is added after it. Dictation in the app listens in English (US).
If you declined, open your phone's Settings app, find ChatPEP under Apps, and allow the microphone under Permissions.
What happens to your voice
Your browser or your phone turns your speech into text, and may use its maker's online speech service to do it. ChatPEP receives only the text, never the recording. The text is then treated like anything you type.
Tips
- Say compound names clearly, and check them before you send. Speech recognition can mishear peptide names.
- Dictation adds nothing to your message count by itself. The message counts when you send it.
