How to read an answer

Updated Oct 16, 2026 · Applies to Web, iPhone, and Android · All plans

An answer can have three parts: warnings and cards at the top, the written answer with its citations, and a row of buttons underneath. The written answer leads with the point, says how strong the evidence is, and usually ends with a question you can reply to.

At the top: warnings and cards

  • Interaction warnings come first, when a compound you asked about may interact with a medication or condition in your profile. See Interaction warnings.
  • A compound profile sums up one compound: its category, whether it is approved or research only, key facts, and how it works. On Research and Frontier.
  • A comparison sets two or more compounds side by side. On Research and Frontier.
  • A studied protocol shows how a compound was dosed in one named source, phase by phase. On every plan. See Studied protocol cards, and what they are not.
  • A reconstitution result shows the syringe math for a vial. See Use the reconstitution calculator.
  • A profile update appears when you mention something about yourself, like a medication, and ChatPEP saves it. It has an Undo button. See How ChatPEP updates your profile from a chat.

Most cards carry a short research-only note beneath them.

The written answer

  • The answer comes first. Context and caveats follow it.
  • Citations appear as small chips at the ends of sentences. Select one to see the study or page behind the claim. See Sources and citations.
  • The evidence level is stated. Answers say whether a finding comes from human trials or from animal and lab studies. A mechanism can be well understood and still have little human data behind it.
  • Doses belong to the research. When an answer mentions a dose, it describes what a study used. It is not a suggestion for you. See Research only: what that means.
  • A follow-up question closes most answers. Reply to it, or ask your own. See Suggested follow-up questions.

While ChatPEP is writing

A status line shows what ChatPEP is working on. To end an answer early, select Stop generating on the web, or tap Stop on iPhone and on Android.

The buttons under an answer

The buttons appear once the answer is complete.

ButtonWhat it does
CopyCopies the answer's text.
Good response and Bad response (Good answer and Poor answer on iPhone and on Android)Rate the answer. See Rate an answer.
Report safety concernFlags an answer that is inaccurate, harmful, or misleading. See Report a safety concern.
RegenerateWrites a new version of the most recent answer.
ShareOn the web, shares a link to the chat. On iPhone and on Android, shares a link to that answer. See Share a chat with a link.
SourcesLists every source the answer used. The button shows how many there are.

After you regenerate, arrows next to the buttons (Previous version and Next version) move between the versions, and a count like 2/2 shows which one you are reading. Regenerating does not use a message from your daily limit.

Read with care

The line beneath the message box says it plainly: "ChatPEP can make mistakes. Check important info. For research only." For anything that matters to you, open the sources, and talk to a qualified healthcare provider before acting on what you read.
