Temporary chats
Updated Oct 16, 2026 · Applies to Web, iPhone, and Android · All plans
A temporary chat is not saved to your history, and its answers do not use or change your profile or My Stack. It is deleted 30 days after your last message in it.
Start a temporary chat
On the web
- Start a new chat.
- Before you send anything, select Temporary chat at the top right.
- Read the notes under Start a temporary chat, then select Continue.
- Send your message. A Temporary label appears at the top of the chat.
To switch back before you send, select the same button again. It reads Disable temporary chat while it is on.
On iPhone and on Android
- Start a new chat.
- Before you send anything, tap Temporary chat at the top right.
- Tap Continue, then send your message. A Temporary label appears at the top.
A chat is temporary or saved from its first message. It cannot be switched afterward.
What is different
- Not in your history. A temporary chat never appears in the sidebar or in Search chats. Once you leave it, there is no list to find it in.
- Memory off. Answers do not use your saved profile or My Stack, and nothing you say is saved to them. Answers still know your first name and approximate location, as in any chat.
- Not used for suggestions. Temporary chats are never read to write the suggested questions on the home screen.
What still applies
- Safety warnings. Interaction warnings still check the medications, conditions, and My Stack items you have saved, and messages are still checked by safety review.
- Your daily limit. Messages in a temporary chat count toward it. See Message limits and when they reset.
- Sharing. You can share a temporary chat like any other. The shared copy is separate, and it keeps working after the temporary chat is deleted.
When it is deleted
A temporary chat is deleted from your account 30 days after your last message in it, and any files attached to it are deleted within a day of that. Choosing Delete from More options removes it from your account at once, and its files within a day. Either way, ChatPEP keeps a copy of its text for safety review, as it does for any chat you delete.
