Try ChatPEP

Message limits and when they reset

Updated Oct 16, 2026 · Applies to Web, iPhone, and Android · All plans

Free, Basic, and Research can each send a set number of messages a day, and Frontier is unlimited, subject to guardrails against abuse. The limit is a rolling window, not a reset at midnight: each message counts toward your limit for 24 hours from the moment you send it, then frees up on its own.

Limits by plan

  • Free: 5 messages
  • Basic: 25 messages
  • Research: 100 messages
  • Frontier: unlimited, subject to guardrails against abuse

How the window works

There is no fixed reset time, so your time zone does not matter. ChatPEP counts the messages you sent in the past 24 hours. If that number is below your plan's limit, you can send another.

  • Every question you send counts, in any chat, on the web, on iPhone, and on Android. Messages in temporary chats count, and so do messages in chats you later delete.
  • Regenerating an answer does not use a message. It is not available while you are at your limit.
  • A question ChatPEP declines to answer does not use a message, and neither does one that gets the crisis support reply instead of an answer.
  • The limit belongs to your account, so it is the same on every device.

When you reach your limit

A panel appears above the message box to say you have used your messages for the day, and the message box is turned off. The panel shows a countdown to when you can send again.

When the countdown ends, the oldest message in your window has turned 24 hours old, and you can send one more. The rest come back one at a time, each 24 hours after you sent it.

On the web

The panel also offers the next plan up, with a button to upgrade and a See all plans link. If very heavy use on Frontier reaches the abuse guardrail, there is no higher plan, so the panel only shows the countdown.

On iPhone

The panel also offers the next plan up. Its button opens the plans screen on that plan, and See all plans opens it with every plan a tap away. You subscribe there through the App Store. See Subscriptions bought on iPhone.

On Android

The panel also offers the next plan up. Its button opens the plans screen on that plan, and See all plans opens it with every plan a tap away. You subscribe there through Google Play. See Subscriptions bought on Android.

Files have a daily limit too

Photos and documents have their own limit, which works the same way. Each file counts for 24 hours from the moment you add it, even if you remove it before sending.

Upgrading raises your limit right away

Your new plan's limit applies as soon as your payment is confirmed. Messages you sent in the past 24 hours still count toward the new, higher limit. See Change your plan.
