Payment methods, receipts, and invoices
Updated Oct 31, 2026 · Applies to Web · All plans
ChatPEP takes cards, plus Apple Pay or Google Pay when your device offers them. Payments are handled by Stripe, ChatPEP's payment processor. Your receipt is sent by email. In Settings, under Plan, Payment shows the card on file with an Update card row, and Invoices lists your past charges.
Ways to pay
When you choose a plan on the web, the checkout shows:
- Apple Pay or Google Pay, at the top, when your device and browser support them.
- Card fields, below them, for any card.
Prices are in US dollars. The order summary shows Due today, the amount charged when you select Subscribe now. After that, you are charged when your plan renews, each month or each year depending on the billing you chose, until you cancel.
When your account is offered a free trial, the button reads Start 7-day free trial, Due today is nothing, and the summary names the day of the first charge and the amount. Your card is saved so that charge can go through. Two days before it, we email you the date and the amount. Cancel before that day and you pay nothing.
Your card details
The card fields belong to Stripe. As the checkout says: "Secured by Stripe. Your card details are encrypted and never reach our servers." ChatPEP never sees or stores your full card number.
Update your card
- Select your name at the bottom of the sidebar, then select Settings.
- Select Plan.
- Under Payment, select Update card.
- A dialog titled Update card opens with the card fields. Enter the new card, then select Save card.
Payment then shows the new card, such as a Visa ending in its last four digits, with its expiry date. Your renewals are charged to it from then on.
Receipts and invoices
When a payment goes through, the confirmation screen says your receipt is on its way by email. If you cannot find it, check your spam or promotions folder.
Invoices, in Settings under Plan, lists your past charges. Select one to open its invoice as a PDF. If you need a receipt or invoice you cannot find there, contact support with the topic Plans and billing.
If a payment fails
A renewal that does not go through does not end your plan right away. You keep it while the payment is tried again.
- A notice at the top of the chat home, under the header, says your payment didn't go through, and a red dot appears on your account menu. On the web, the notice's Update button opens the card form, and the same notice sits at the top of Settings > Plan.
- If your plan was bought on iPhone or Android, the notice on the web has no button. It asks you to update your card in the ChatPEP app on the phone you subscribed with.
- You get up to three emails: on the day, three days later, and a week later. Each has one Update card button.
- When a payment goes through, the notice and the dot go away, ChatPEP confirms the payment was received, and your plan carries on.
If the payment still fails after about three weeks of retries, your plan ends and your account moves to Free. Your chats, profile, and My Stack stay in your account.
Plans bought on iPhone or Android
On iPhone
A plan bought in the iPhone app is paid through the App Store, with the payment method on your Apple Account, and Apple sends the receipt. If a renewal fails, the same notice appears in the app, and its Update button opens your iPhone's subscription settings, where Apple asks you to update how you pay. See Subscriptions bought on iPhone.
On Android
A plan bought in the Android app is paid through Google Play, with the payment method on your Google Account, and Google sends the receipt. If a renewal fails, the same notice appears in the app, and its Update button opens your payment methods in Google Play. See Subscriptions bought on Android.
